A famous Catalan artist, Joan Miro (1893-1983) is a significant figure in Barcelona´s art history and you can not miss to visit his work when you are visitng the capital of Cataluña. He was born in Barcelona and grew there where he is mostly effected with Catalan style. During his life he lived in Paris mostly due to Spanish Civil War and his preference. Although he is from Cataluña, his most famous pieces of art is spread around the world. Two of them are the most well-known ones in Paris, on the walls of the UNESCO building. (The Wall of Moon and The Wall of Sun). Also his work is being exhibited in National Gallery of Art in Washington.
He has a foundation and a museum in Barcelona which you should include your agenda and also there you can see a current exibition of a famous artist and contribute in the workshops as well. But if you miss this chance, you still have the oppurtunity to see some of his work in the streets of Barcelona. The most significant one is the Parc de Joan Miro where you can see the famous "Woman and Bird" and the other one is interestingly a pavement "Pla de l´Os in the Rambla".

Maritime museum BarcelonaThe Maritime Museum in Barcelona is situated in a shipyard that dates back to the 13th century so it could not be a more appropriate site for a museum which explores the intricate history of boats especially as it was used as an arsenal of ships for Spain during those early years.  In 1936 they first decided to develop a museum there and since it has been under preservation and restoration. Añthough it is often being extended and developed the history still lives in its walls as its sea-front location makes your mind travel back in time. Situated just at the end of the main Ramblas it is a shame to miss such a fun yet informative day out.

Inside the museum there is very little guidance, you are left with a set of head phones and a tape which is there to be your tour guide. It is recorded in many languages but nevertheless people get lost! You are taken round vessels of all shapes and sizes which still have authentic artefacts the saiors found on their travels.

The Centre of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona (CCCB) organizes and produces exhibitions, discussions, festivals and concerts. What is more it is possible to watch films, visit courses in various areas and readings there. You can find the CCCB directly in the Raval district in the old town, just a few meters from the Ramblas and the MACBA. The CCCB supports artists by providing them space and borrowing their art to other galleries and museums. It is also open to independent artist. Through this versatility, the CCCB is able to offer a high quality, interdisciplinary program.

The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona does not own any significant permanent collection, but the format and the program is a subject of a constant change. We recommend that you inform yourself on the contents of the current exhibition and events before visiting. The Center contemporània de Cultura de Barcelona is a public institution, which is supported by the provincial government of Barcelona and the city government.
If you need a break, there is also a very nice cafeteria.

Picasso Museum BarcelonaThe Museum is dedicated to one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, the creator of Cubism Pablo Picasso (25.10.1881, Malaga - 8.04.1973, Mougins, France). It is located in the five medieval buildings on Carrer de Montcada. Providing more than 3800 works, the museum is one of many places in the world where you can see works by Picasso, and that is why it does not include the most famous works, focusing primarily on the early years of artistic work and the time, which Picasso spent creating in Barcelona. The exhibition also omits the initial work of Picasso's cubist period (from 1907), but these can be seen in some temporary exhibitions. Not only a rich collection, but also the possibility to see the old courtyards property and free entrance every first Sunday of each month and other days of the year encourage many tourists to visit the Picasso Museum.
