Fundacio Antoni Tapies
Antoni Tapies, a Catalan artist who was born in 1923 in Barcelona, is nourished with the Catalan culture and art. He had studied law for 3 years but then left law due to his lung disease and during his convalescence in senatorium he started being interested in arts. Then on he had too many exibitions, famous pieces and counted to be one of the most famous representatives of European abstract expressionism.
He had used different types of materials in his paintings throughout his carreer. He combined clay, marble dust and used paper in 50s and those pieces were exhibited in Tate Gallery in London. In 70s he used other different objects in his paintings like parts of furniture under the influence of pop art. During his art life, he had several solo exhibitions in different cities around the world like Cologne, London, New York, Milan, Stockholm,Palma de Mallorca and of course Barcelona.
Fundacio Antoni Tapies, is a museum and a center of culture in Barcelona. It is located in the center of the city, in Eixample area, one of the first buildings in that strict with the modernist style. The building, itself, is noticable and interesting from outside and inside the artist´s works can be seen. Besides his works, there are some educational programmes developed for kids and for adults seperately. Also there is a shop inside the museum where souvenirs can be purchased.
